Thule Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Adam: What's going on, everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Gateway 3 bike rack on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. So if we do have only a need for only two bikes to be hauled to and fro, we have a two bike version available here at etrailer.com.So this is going to be a really good solution for you if you don't want to mess with a roof rack or don't have the capabilities of getting a hitch on your vehicle. If you need to get bikes, this is going to be the way to go. The nice thing about this is it fits really well on our Jetta, but it'll fit on other vehicles too. So if you have multiple vehicles, sometimes you take one, sometimes they take the other, this can work on mostly any vehicle. more

Hollywood Racks Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Evangeline: Hi, it's Evangeline from etrailer.com and today we are looking at the Hollywood Racks Express Trunk Bike Rack here on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. So this is a great option, especially if maybe you don't have a hitch on your Jetta and you still want to carry around bike racks. This is also very quick and easy to use. So the way our bike is mounted to this bike rack here are by these straps, so when you do have your bike up there, you want to strap them down to these rubber straps and you can see how they hold them in place just like that. And we have one, two straps at the top. This also comes with this extra strap here that is attached to the bike rack, and this really helps hold the bike in and secure and prevent sway while you're on the road. more

Saris Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2014 Volkswagen Passat- Video

Saris Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Hey everyone. Today, we have a 2014 Volkswagen Passat, and we're going to do a test fit of the Saris Bones EX 3 bike rack. Now this bike rack mounts to the trunk of your vehicle, it allows you to get three of your bikes transported to and from your destination.A benefit of having a trunk mounted rack is that you're not going to have to worry about investing in a hitch mounted rack and if you don't even have a hitch yet, then you have to invest in the hitch as well, or even a roof rack, plus a bike rack to be able to get your bike from point A to point B.With the bike, it's attached at three different points, we're going to have two straps on our top tube right here, securing it into the cradles and we're also going to have an anti-sway cradle securing the seat post too, just taking out a lot of the unnecessary movement. You see, it's still moving a little bit right there, but not near as much as it would without this strap. It's going to help prevent a lot of bike to vehicle contact and bike to bike contact. Now let's go ahead and take the bike off. It's going to be pretty easy to do. more

Kuat Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Volkswagen Passat we're gonna be doing a test fit on a Kuat Highline Three Bike Trunk Mount Rack. That part number's HIT3S.Now we have the silver installed right now, however it does come in black under part number HIT3B.This is a trunk mounted bike rack that mounts to the trunk of your vehicle, and it can carry up to three bikes. This is gonna be one of the nice hybrid versions of a trunk mount bike rack. It's very light, so it's gonna be very easy to install, but it's also gonna be durable and be able to support your bikes very well.If we look at the bike and how it's attached to the rack, excuse me, we're gonna see we have to ratchet straps on the top of our bike frame securing it into the cradles. We also have a third point with an anti-sway cradle and a strap. Once we secure that, that's gonna prevent our bike from swaying too much while we're traveling. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Volkswagen Passat, we're gonna be testing the Hollywood Racks Express three bike carrier. That's gonna be part number HRE3. As you can see, we already have a bike installed, so let's take a look at some of the features. These cradles can pivot left and right, and back and forth, with a little bit of force up and down on the bike rack to provide any type of spacing needs you might have between your bikes, or between your vehicle and bike. Our bike is connected to two different points of contact. We have these rubber straps that are coming around and simply latching onto this little notch right there. The bike rack also does come with a stabilization strap, so when all three bikes are loaded, simply just undo the strap, wrap it around your bikes, and come back to the strap and up and through it. more

Each cradle has has a rubber strap that simply goes around the little notch right there and secures your bike down. If we look at the bike, we see it's connected at three different points of contact. Today on our 2015 Volkswagen Passat, we're test fitting the Thule Raceway Pro. It's a two bike rack, trunk mounted bike rack, and the part number for that is TH9001PRO. We do already have our bike on the rack, we're going to show you how we strapped the bike down, and then also some features of the rack, and how it's connected to your vehicle. We've got two cradles holding down the frame of the vehicle here. We've got three straps, two frame straps and one anti-sway. That's going to keep that bike from swinging back and forth, and possibly damaging your vehicle while you're driving down the road. The first thing we'll do, it we'll take off our frame straps here. more

We'll then loosely tighten them down to get them in place. Once the straps are in place and the bike rack can support itself, we'll fully tighten them down securing the bike rack to the trunk. After the securing the excess slack, we're ready to load up our bike. A lever inside of the mechanism will allow you to change the position of the bumpers, moving them up and down to get the best fit for your vehicle. With those secure, we'll pull the yellow levers at the top of the rack, pushing our arms towards the middle, moving them up, and then sliding them back out to lock them into place with the yellow lever. You will want to make sure that these arms are sitting level, or slightly inclined. We'll go ahead and open up our cradle straps, grab our bike, place it in the cradles, and secure it with our straps. more
